Centrica to withdraw from the Canvey LNG partnership
On the 1st October, Centrica informed Calor, LNG Japan and Osaka Gas that it had decided to withdraw from the Canvey LNG partnership. As a major company within the UK gas industry it is involved in many projects relating to gas storage and distribution infrastructure. As the Canvey LNG team has extensive expertise in all aspects of the gas industry already, Centrica has decided to focus its resources in other areas. Centrica is still supportive of this project in terms of it helping the UK's security of supply for natural gas in the medium to long term.
Consequently, Calor wrote to the planning inspectorate advising them that they are temporarily withdrawing the application for the LNG Terminal development.
The 3 original partners remain committed to this project and anticipate re-submitting an application to develop an LNG terminal on Canvey in the next 2-3 months.
The partners will use this time to work with various agencies to develop detailed plans in all areas and they remain confident in the significant benefit to the UK’s natural gas infrastructure that can be derived from a state of the art LNG terminal located on Canvey.
